EuroOffice, Helium en de Straat van Hormuz: Europa's digitale én fysieke afhankelijkheid

<p>In aflevering 4 van 2GB de Podcast praten we bij over twee onderwerpen die op het eerste gezicht niets met elkaar te maken hebben, maar allebei gaan over hoe kwetsbaar Europa is als het aankomt op digitale en technologische onafhankelijkheid.</p><p></p><p>We beginnen met EuroOffice: het nieuwe Europese initiatief van Nextcloud, IONOS en Proton dat Microsoft Office wil vervangen. Een goed idee, maar al voor de eerste stabiele release verwikkeld in een juridische strijd met OnlyOffice over een geforkte codebase. En de grote vraag blijft: wat is het omslagpunt voor bedrijven om écht over te stappen? Teams mis je nog steeds.</p><p></p><p>Daarna: helium. Rob teaste het al in de vorige aflevering en het blijkt een fascinerend en zorgwekkend verhaal. Qatar produceert een derde van al het helium ter wereld — als bijproduct van LNG-productie. Dat helium is cruciaal voor chipproductie en MRI-machines. Door de aanvallen op Qatar en de sluiting van de Straat van Hormuz liggen zowel de productie als het transport stil. Het probleem: helium kun je maar een paar weken opslaan, want het lekt overal doorheen. De klok tikt dus letterlijk. En als de straat morgen opengaat?
