Understanding the Spiritual Battlefield

In our last conversation, we delved into eschatology, unraveling the biblical predictions about the end times. It's clear that we have a real adversary, and despite societal attempts to downplay it, the Bible unequivocally states that we are engaged in a spiritual battle. In 2 Peter chapter 2, the apostle Peter outlines the challenges Christians will face in the end times, emphasizing the rise of false prophets and the hardships ahead.

Facing the Unchanging Enemy

It's crucial to recognize that our approach to resisting the enemy doesn't change with the unfolding of these events. The enemy's power remains constant; it's the increasing wickedness of humanity that provides more fertile ground for spiritual warfare. Peter's advice is simple yet powerful: resist the adversary, and he will flee from you. The devil's power over believers is limited to what we allow him. As a church, we need to anchor ourselves in timeless principles that are just as relevant now as they will be in the future.

Developing a Spiritual Core

One key aspect of our spiritual foundation is the development of a robust devotional life. This isn't a drastic shift in response to impending challenges but a consistent, daily commitment to spending time with God beyond Sunday mornings. Think of it as building your spiritual core, the source of strength for your entire being. At Connection Point, we've initiated a 90-day challenge, encouraging believers to commit to daily devotions. Start with 15 minutes a day, gradually building a habit that strengthens your connection with God.

Tools for Devotional Growth

For those unsure about where to begin, numerous devotional tools are available, such as the "SOAP" method. Whether you're reading scripture, spending time in prayer, engaging in worship, or trying journaling, find what resonates with you. Journaling, in particular, helps capture your reflections on God's word, your prayers, and the thoughts you believe God is impressing upon you.

Fueling the Lamp: Keeping Oil in Your Spiritual Lamp

Transitioning into the parable of the ten virgins from Matthew 25, we learn a valuable lesson about the importance of keeping oil in our lamps. The lamp symbolizes our faith in Jesus, while the oil represents the Holy Spirit's power in our lives. Believing in Jesus is essential, but without the Holy Spirit, our faith lacks the necessary power. As the world becomes more confusing and the spirit of the antichrist distorts truth, relying on the Holy Spirit becomes imperative.
