Guest Spotlight: Chief Matt Antkowiak

Chief Matt Antkowiak is the guest on this episode of Breaking the Silence and is introduced as the author of Unconquerable, as well as a police chief, investigator, U.S. Army veteran, firefighter, and child-protection advocate. Drawing from both professional experience and his own survivor story, Matt speaks with unusual directness about childhood sexual abuse, grooming, law enforcement, school accountability, faith, therapy, and the mission of helping other survivors — especially men — understand that the shame belongs to the abuser, not the abused.

Dr. Gregory Williams Opens With Urgency and Purpose

Dr. Gregory Williams opens the episode from Houston, explaining that he has just returned from church and vacation Bible school but is setting aside his planned notes to give Chief Matt Antkowiak the full hour. He frames the conversation as immediate and practical, stressing that the issues being discussed are not distant or outdated but could be happening in communities right now. Gregory urges listeners not to “hit the snooze button” emotionally or intellectually, warning that ignoring abuse, grooming, and trafficking can allow harm to continue. He also gives listeners ways to participate live through Facebook, phone, and text.

Introducing Unconquerable and Matt’s Mission

The conversation turns to Matt’s forthcoming book, Unconquerable, which Gregory shows on screen and describes as a book expected to make a lasting impact. Matt discusses the legal-review process, planned author copies, a hoped-for launch around September 1st, and a future companion workbook titled around “12 conversations” parents need to have with their children. Gregory reads from the book’s back-cover description, identifying Matt as a co-founder of Team Unconquerable and the Invictus Foundation, and as someone dedicated to protecting the vulnerable, exposing darkness, and building protectors. Matt also describes his daily educational posts about grooming, education spaces, trafficking, and child-protection awareness.

Survivor Shame, Silence, and the Call to Be Heard

Matt explains that Unconquerable is rooted not only in his career but also in his own childhood sexual and physical abuse. He speaks directly to survivors, especially men, saying there is no shame or guilt in having been sexually abused and that the abuser owns that burden. Matt says he carried shame in silence for 40 years, and only later began connecting how much of his life, behavior, law-enforcement mission, and trauma response were tied to what happened to him. He describes moments by a pool that became turning points, including a childhood promise to protect another boy and a later realization after a tornado in Oklahoma City that led him toward law enforcement.
