What are the main L&D and talent development certifications, and what do they actually mean for hiring?

APTD and CPTD are exam-based talent development credentials. PHR and SHRM-CP are general HR credentials, not L&D-specific. CPTM is the only one built specifically around the training manager role, with a live practicum. AIHR is a broader HR program with specializations. None of them, on their own, prove someone can lead your function.
