There's been a lot of hate online toward the better third-place teams advancing to the knockouts, and I'm here to defend them. In this video, I break down the four biggest complaints people have — dead rubber games, "rewarding mediocrity," a meaningless group stage, and unbalanced pathways — and explain why I think each one is overblown or just plain wrong. I pull in examples from AFCON, the Asian Cup, the Euros, and this very World Cup to make my case, plus respond directly to some of your comments.
