A six-minute quantum experiment opens a bridge seven hundred years into humanity's future, and cryogenic engineer Art Lawson is the only man keeping it alive.

On the other side, humanity has spread among the stars and learned that its suns are dying. The descendants who built the receiver cannot save their own timeline, but they can send knowledge, technology, and a limited number of people into Lawson's century. There is one brutal constraint: every kilogram that crosses permanently damages the bridge.
