Dragnet #185, "The Big Mask Part 2,"

Sergeants Joe Friday and Frank Smith continue their hunt for the "Black Mask Bandit," a holdup man who has been terrorizing large market managers across Los Angeles for six months. Their investigation leads them to a bakery on Memois Street, where owner Mr. Jenkins has just survived a harrowing encounter with the suspect. The small, elderly bandit entered at 6:30 in the morning, calmly sat and ate a chocolate donut while holding Jenkins at gunpoint, and casually discussed whether he would rob the bakery of its meager $150.

When Jenkins manages to grab the gunman's weapon and fires all six shots at point-blank range, the unthinkable happens—every bullet misses. The masked man simply laughs, walks forward unscathed, and overpowers the terrified baker before escaping with his wallet. As Friday and Smith examine the evidence and interview the shaken victim, they face a baffling question: how could six shots fired at 10 to 15 feet all miss their target? The answer may hold the key to finally catching this seemingly invincible criminal.
