Die CDU stürzt von 37,1 auf 17,2 Prozent ab und verliert damit fast zwanzig Prozentpunkte. Für Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz verschärft das Ergebnis die Debatte über Kurs und Strategie der Union im Umgang mit der AfD. Gleichzeitig erreicht die Wahlbeteiligung mit 77,8 Prozent einen außergewöhnlich hohen Wert. Die AfD verpasst im neuen Landtag die absolute Mehrheit, während BSW, SPD, Grüne und Linke ebenfalls einziehen. Die FDP scheitert mit 2,6 Prozent an der Fünf-Prozent-Hürde.
