Barry Moline - When Leadership Gets Out of the Way

Barry Moline - When Leadership Gets Out of the Way4 sep1 u 21 min

<p>When Leadership Gets Out of the Way</p><p><br />We spend a lot of time talking about how leaders should lead.</p><p><br />How they should communicate, influence, motivate, make decisions and bring people together.<br />But what if good leadership sometimes means becoming less central?</p><p><br />On September 3, I'll be joined by <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/barry-moline/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>Barry Moline</strong></a> for an Inspiring Conversations session about what happens when leaders stop trying to be at the centre of everything and start creating the conditions for people to connect and work well together.</p><p><br />Barry brings an interesting perspective to that question. After 29 years as a CEO, including leading organisations responsible for essential energy and water services, he thought he understood how to bring people together. Then, while writing his book CONNECT!, he began questioning some of his own assumptions.</p><p><br />One in particular stood out. The leader leading the meeting isn't necessarily the best way to build collaboration.<br />Because perhaps the strongest teams aren't the ones where everyone looks to the leader. They're the ones where people know, trust and respect each other enough to work together because they genuinely want to.</p><p><br />We'll explore connection, trust, influence and what leaders may need to give up if they want their teams to become less dependent on them.<br /></p><p>And perhaps we'll come back to one deceptively simple question:<br />What if one of the most important things a leader can do is create the conditions for people to stop depending on the leader?<br /><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23inspiringconversations&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#InspiringConversations</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23leadership&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#Leadership</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23teamwork&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#Teamwork</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23collaboration&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#Collaboration</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23trust&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#Trust</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23workplaceculture&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#WorkplaceCulture</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23leadershipdevelopment&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#LeadershipDevelopment</strong></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23podmatch&amp;origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer"><strong>#podmatch</strong></a></p>
