The pretty village branded “ground zero” of Britain’s illegal immigration crisis is demanding answers after the government suggested the size of a local migrant camp could double.

Last night the Home Office insisted planning documents suggesting 3,510 asylum seekers could be housed just yards from tiny Piddington in Oxfordshire were early drafts - despite being dated from 2026.

This fresh twist for the 350 villagers battling to halt the arrival of 1,250 asylum seekers, has poured new petrol on an already tense uprising in the most unlikely of places.

Images of black balaclava-clad men shutting down Dover for hours rightly shocked last weekend.

As did the hundreds of local residents spontaneously blocking new boat migrants leaving Portsmouth into the early hours of Monday morning.

Both scenes pointed to a Government losing control over the growing backlash against Britain’s illegal immigration disaster, with ministers and cops braced for further unrest.

PM Andy Burnham insists that all parts of the country “must do their part” to handle the massive influx, despite not a single vote being cast for the policy.

Yet what that means in practice is going to be far harder for the Labour Party to simply try to bat away with cries of racism when people take to the streets.
