You know how the prodigal son story ends. But the real point of Jesus’s most famous parable isn’t the son who wasted everything. It’s the father who ran to bring him home.

In this message from Luke 15, Pastor Allen Cason walks through the parable of the prodigal son, alongside the lost sheep and the lost coin, to show that both the wayward younger son and the resentful older son are trying to earn their way back into their father’s good graces. Neither has to. The father’s love is already extravagant, running out to meet rebellion and quietly correcting resentment before either son can finish making his case.

Whether you find yourself further from God than you’d like to admit, or closer to the older brother, keeping score and running on empty, this sermon on the prodigal son points to the same invitation: come home.

00:00 Welcome and Recap: The Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin

03:31 Scripture Reading: Luke 15:1–3, 11–32

06:30 The Younger Son Comes to His Senses

14:05 The Older Son’s Hidden Resentment

18:43 The Real Main Character: A Prodigal Father

22:31 Which Son Are You?

27:04 Three Questions to Take Home

27:53 Closing Prayer

Metter Methodist Church is a Global Methodist congregation in Metter, Georgia, led by Pastor Allen Cason.
