893. Plan, Do, Study, Act: W. Edwards Deming's Four-Step Method for Improving Anything in Your Business
Brian discusses the improvement method W. Edwards Deming taught for four decades, and the reason most business owners are running a version of it that Deming himself objected to.
Deming learned the cycle from his mentor at Bell Labs and carried it to Japan in 1950. It came back to America with one word changed. He spent years arguing against that change, and Brian explains what he was protecting and why the distinction separates a business that gets smarter from one that just stays busy.
Brian also makes the case for the single step almost every entrepreneur skips. It takes about thirty seconds, it costs nothing, and without it you cannot learn anything from the changes you make. He walks through a business scenario from start to finish and closes with a one-sentence action item to run before your next decision.
Part two of two.
