š Trouble at the Driver's License Center in Japan
In this episode of Ohazassu, I share a story from my early days in Japan that still makes me laugh.
What should have been a simple driverās license conversion from Australia turned into a confusing experience at the testing center. The eye test was completely different from what I was used to, and without realizing it, I answered in a way that made things awkward fast. That led to a long and slightly tense exchange with an officer who thought I didnāt understand Japanese, when really I just didnāt understand the test. Looking back, itās one of those moments that reminds me how small cultural differences can trip you up, and how easy it is to misread a situation when youāre somewhere new. I also share a useful Japanese phrase at the end: shiryoku kensa (č¦åę¤ę»), which means āeye test.ā
