S1 Ep33 Dance Workshop (Non-Talking, Stream of Consciousness, and the Limits of Speech)31 aug37 min

This episode returns to the non-verbal terrain of movement, exploring what happens when we intentionally step away from speech, and what happens when we saturate movement with it.

The workshop begins with a practice in non-talking: stepping into shared or individual spaces without speech to observe how presence, relationality, and communication are negotiated through direct action and listening rather than verbal agreement.

In contrast, a counter-practice adapted from Elise Brewer invites continuous, stream-of-consciousness verbalization while moving or walking. By attempting to name every thought, sensation, and action in real time, the task exposes the speed, limits, and friction of language against lived experience.

Marking the first episode recorded on video, this iteration opens up questions around mimicry, vulnerability, and the choreographic line between scoring and documentation: Do our words lead the body, follow it, or run entirely out of sync with the dance taking place?

Reference:Elise Brewer walking practice in SITE&MARC Residency with Mentor 2024, https://on.soundcloud.com/eqbCrmWfRASF7Dawn5
