In Episode 3 of The Enoch Arc, Bennett Tanton examines the connection between Daniel 7, the Parables of 1 Enoch, and the way Jesus used the title Son of Man. The Parables describe a mysterious figure who is chosen before creation, associated with righteousness and the Messiah, seated on a throne of glory, and given authority to judge the kings of the earth. That imagery raises a major question: was Jesus using a simple expression of humanity, or invoking a much larger Jewish expectation? This episode explores the Son of Man in Daniel, the Chosen One and Righteous One in 1 Enoch, the debate over when the Parables were written, the absence of the Parables from Qumran, Jesus’ trial before the High Priest, and the difficult ending of 1 Enoch 71 where Enoch himself appears to be identified with the Son of Man. The goal is not to claim that 1 Enoch proves Christianity or that Jesus depended on the text.
