יש דיעה בגמ' שמ"ש "שבתון זכרון תרועה" הכוונה שבר"ה שחל להיות בשבת לא יהי' "תרועה ממש, אלא מקראות של תרועה יאמרו". היינו שישנו אז חיוב מן התורה לומר פסוקי שופרות. ואע"פ שלפי המסקנא פסוק זה הוא רק אסמכתא, אבל "אלו ואלו דברי אלקים חיים". לפי דיעה זו נמצא שבר"ה שחל להיות בשבת יש בנוסח התפלה, שבו אומרים פסוקי שופרות, חיוב מן התורה! (ועד"ז בנוגע לנוסח הוידוי ביוהכ"פ וכו'). ובענין זה רואים גודל מעלת התורה, שאפי' ענין השבת שיכול לפעול את הפעולה דתק"ש (שלכן לא נצרך כ"כ הענין דתק"ש ביו"ט של ר"ה שחל להיות בשבת, כמבואר בדא"ח), אינו יכול לפעול את הפעולה דאמירת פסוקי שופרות שבתורה, וזה צ"ל גם בשבת. וזוהי השייכות המיוחדת להתוועדות זו, הקשורה עם תלמידי הישיבות וכו'. ויה"ר שלימוד התורה תהי' מפני שזהו תורתו של הקב"ה, ובאופן שהלימוד מביא לידי מעשה וכו'.

Synopsis

There is an opinion in the Gemara that the law that the shofar is not sounded when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos is derived from the verse, “…a day of rest, a remembrance of the shofar blast,” meaning that we do not “actually sound the shofar, but recite verses about shofar blasts.” Based on this opinion, when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos, the Nusach of davening on Rosh Hashanah carries a Biblical obligation. (Although the Gemara ultimately concludes that the verse serves only as an asmachta, nevertheless, “These and those are the words of the living G-d.”) Here we see the greatness of Torah (which has particular relevance at this farbrengen, which is designated for the yeshivah students): although the sanctity of Shabbos is so great that it accomplishes what ordinarily is accomplished by sounding the shofar (which is why sounding the shofar is not required when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos, as explained in Chassidus), nevertheless Shabbos cannot accomplish the effect produced by reciting the verses of Shofaros (and therefore the obligation remains even on Shabbos). May it be Hashem’s will that the students study Torah for the reason that it is Hashem’s Torah, and in such a way that “study leads to action” etc.
