זה שגם אצל בני-נח שייך להיות הבנה בתורה (בנוגע לז' מצוות וכו') [אע"פ דגם זה שבנ"י יכולים להבין את התורה, חכמתו של הקב"ה, הוא רק בגלל ש"נתן לנו את תורתו"], הוא, כי ה' רוצה שיהי' "ובחרת בחיים" [כמ"ש בסיום פ' נצבים], שהאדם יבחור בבחירתו החפשית ללמוד תורה, ואם השגת התורה היתה קיימת בגלוי רק אצל בנ"י היתה מתבטלת כל ענין הבחירה. וההוראה: מכאן רואים עד כמה נוגע להקב"ה ענין הבחירה אצל בנ"י, עד שבגלל זה "הוריד" את התורה, "חמדה גנוזה" "שעשועים לפניו", כ"כ שגם לאינו-יהודי ועושה היפך רצונו תהי' הבנה בתורה! ובמילא כאשר בוחרים לעשות ענין בלתי-רצוי או אפי' ענין רשות, יש לדעת שעי"ז לוקחים ענין הכי יקר ונעלה של הקב"ה, שנתנו לבנ"י כ"חלק אלוקה ממעל ממש", ומכניסים א"ז ל"בית הכסא" ר"ל או לסתם עניני רשות שאין להם שום תפיסת מקום! והתירוץ (הפיתוי של היצה"ר) שזה רק פעולה חד פעמית וכו' אין בזה כדי להצדיק את העוולה הגדולה שעושה לעצמו!

Synopsis

The reason that even Bnei Noach can attain an understanding of the Torah is because Hashem wants the Jewish people to choose Torah study of their own free choice (as the verse states at the end of Parashas Nitzavim), “You must choose life”); if only the Jewish people were able to understand Torah, free choice would be undermined. Here we see how important free choice is to Hashem: in order to preserve it, He lowered the Torah – His hidden treasure and delight – so that it can be understood even by a non-Jew, and even by someone who acts contrary to His will. Conversely, when a person chooses to do something undesirable, chas v’shalom (or even something merely permissible), he should realize that, as the Alter Rebbe writes in Tanya, it is akin to taking Hashem’s most precious and exalted possession and bringing it into a bathroom Rachmana litzlan (or at least into mundane matters that have no real value). And the excuse of the yetzer hara that it is only a one-time action does nothing to justify the tremendous wrong that a person is doing to himself.
