Creeps by Night was the Blue Network's 1944 anthology of subtle, psychological chillers — a series so unnerving that listeners with heart conditions were warned to stay away. Boris Karloff launched it; by this July broadcast the host was known only as "Dr. X." In "Six Who Did Not Die," the captain of a pearl-diving schooner murders his crew so he can keep their share of the haul. Greed draws him back to the same lagoon for another run at the king-size pearls — until the new head diver, alone on the bottom in a brass helmet, reports that there are men down there in the dark with him. Only a handful of this series survives, making it one of the rarest horror anthologies of the golden age.
