#175- A Walk In The Woods

I recently watched this movie starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte.

Have you seen it?

It was very comical.

Two people who couldn't be more different, walking the same path with completely different ideas about what the journey should look like.
SPOILER ALERT!

One, a well-renowned writer. Organised. Thoughtful. A plan.

The other...

A fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants kinda guy.

They set out to walk the Appalachian Trail.

But they don't finish it.

And that's where it got interesting for me.

Bill sees that they didn't complete the trail (the organised guy)

Katz sees it differently (not orgainsed guy)

They walked the trail.

Same experience.
Same distance.
Same ending.

Completely different meaning.

And neither of them is necessarily wrong.

Because who decided that the only way something counts is if you finish the whole bloody thing?

Who decided what finished even means?

We put so many expectations around what achievement is supposed to look like.

Finish the course.
Reach the goal.
Stick to the plan.
Get to the end.

Otherwise somehow it doesn't count.

And our nervous system gets dragged along for the ride, constantly measuring where we are against where we think we should be.

What if we stopped?

What if you looked at what you have done, rather than constantly measuring yourself against what you haven't?

Maybe you didn't finish the trail.

But you still walked the bloody trail.

And maybe that's enough.

Notice what you say to yourself about the things you didn't finish.
"I never stick to anything."
"I should have done more."
That's stress language. And your body is listening.

If you want to catch yours, grab the free workbook here:
https://mailchi.mp/33e8ad69b5d9/catch-your-stress-language

Wendy x x
