The “Ted Lasso” Candidate: David Jolly on Leaving the GOP and the Fight for Florida

All eyes may be on Texas and Ohio this midterm season, but another surprising race is happening in Ana’s home state of Florida. In this episode, she sits down with David Jolly, the former Republican congressman turned Democratic nominee for governor, who’s trying to become the first Democrat elected governor of Florida in more than three decades. They talk about why he left the GOP and where he stands on abortion, gun violence prevention, health care, immigration, housing costs, and public education. Jolly also explains his push to stop new AI data centers, why he thinks Florida needs new leadership, and why, in the age of Trump, he’s trying to be Ted Lasso.
