When Your Heart Can't Climb
Psalm 61 sermon on anxiety, overwhelm, and what to do when life is heavier than your strength. This back to school message walks through David's prayer, "lead me to the rock that is higher than I", and asks the question most of us are too tired to say out loud: what happens when you don't got this? We look at how God hears you from the farthest place you can feel, why ""lead me"" is the hardest prayer for capable people to pray, and how the psalm's images of rock, tower, tent, and wings move from protection to nearness. If you're a parent sending a child into a new school year, a student walking into a room where nobody saved you a seat, or a teacher facing needs bigger than your energy, this one's for you. Also covers the Christian gospel turn at the end of Psalm 61. The prayer for a king whose reign endures, and how Jesus is the King who comes down instead of shouting instructions from the top of the rock.
