Frantz Fanon – Post-Colonial Thought

Frantz Fanon transformed the study of colonialism by showing that domination affects not only politics and economics, but also identity, language, psychology, and self-perception. Through works such as Black Skin, White Masks and The Wretched of the Earth, he examined internalized racism, the psychological effects of oppression, revolutionary struggle, nationalism, and the challenges facing newly independent societies.

His lasting contribution was the idea that true decolonization requires more than political independence. It also involves changing institutions, cultural hierarchies, economic structures, and the way people understand themselves. Fanon's work remains influential because it asks a difficult question: when colonial rule ends, how much of its power continues to survive inside society and the human mind?
