Grown Ass Man Podcast #009: Just Blanche and Dorothy Out Here Bowling
Greg and Patrick talk bowling drama, playoff expansion, workplace chaos, NIL, bowl games, aging, medication side effects, and grown-ass adjustments.
The Grown Ass Man Podcast is back with Episode 9, and Greg DeMarco and Patrick O’Dowd return after a couple of weeks away with workplace chaos, bowling drama, college football arguments, and the kind of grown-ass life updates that probably would have sounded ridiculous 20 years ago.
The episode opens with both Greg and Patrick dealing with versions of the same problem at work: people stepping outside their lane. That leads into a quick detour about generational labels, Xennials, Gen X, political texts, and the general annoyance of being placed into categories you did not ask for.
Patrick then takes over with the sports story of the week after rolling a personal-best 764 bowling series, including games of 207, 278, and 279. The celebration does not last long, though, as the conversation shifts into handicap leagues, bowling etiquette, and a heated exchange with an opponent who seemed ready to give up before the match was even over. Patrick eventually apologizes, but not before making the case that handicaps exist for a reason and league bowling is supposed to give everyone a chance.
From there, Greg and Patrick dive into the idea of an expanded 24-team College Football Playoff and whether adding more teams would actually hurt the regular season. Both push back on that concern, arguing that expansion could make even more games matter while still leaving college football with one of the hardest postseason fields to reach in major sports. NIL, the transfer portal, parity, bowl opt-outs, Group of Six access, and the possibility of the power conferences eventually separating completely all become part of the discussion.
The Grown Ass Moments of the Week bring things back to everyday life. Greg shares his Texas Roadhouse smashed-potato hack, while Patrick talks about staying out late enough to realize he may officially be entering “grown old ass man” territory. That leads into a more personal conversation about medications, side effects, appetite changes, and the adjustments both guys have made around their own treatments.
Episode 9 is about adjusting—at work, on the lanes, in college football, and in life. Sometimes that means changing strategy. Sometimes it means admitting you were too hard on somebody. And sometimes it means realizing that Blanche and Dorothy may actually be the people you want bowling next to you
