Over thousands of years of Chinese history, more than a dozen dynasties chose this city as their capital. Altogether, it served as a capital for more than fifteen hundred years. It is not known around the world for terracotta warriors and ancient city walls like Xi’an, and it is no longer a political center like Beijing. But if Chinese history were a great river, Luoyang would be its deepest riverbed. Water flows in from every direction, meets and settles here, and then continues onward.
