Why Nobody Wants Kids Anymore?

Why Nobody Wants Kids Anymore?23. Sept.15 Min.

I recently stumbled into some pretty startling evidence of the birth rate collapse happening right in my own backyard.

It’s back-to-school season, and while picking up my daughter on her first day, she told me something interesting: her kindergarten teacher had just become her third-grade teacher.

At first, I thought that was just a funny coincidence.

Then I learned why.

For decades, our local elementary school had two kindergarten classes each year, with roughly 50 incoming kids. But over the past five years, enrollment has dropped so much that the school can no longer justify two classes.

And apparently, it isn’t just our school. Every school in the district is seeing the same thing.

This year’s pre-K class is reportedly only about two-thirds the size of the kindergarten class.

That got me thinking.

We are watching the birth rate collapse in real time.

And if this continues for a few decades, the consequences could be enormous. An aging population means fewer young people to maintain infrastructure, support retirees, and fund social programs.

What looks like a relatively small demographic trend today could become a major social problem a few decades from now.

So why is this happening?
