Developer insolvency can leave off-the-plan buyers exposed, particularly when construction stops and unfinished properties have little commercial value. While deposits are typically intended to remain protected until settlement, the Bathla collapse revealed contracts where funds could be released early to finance projects. Buyers need to understand exactly where their deposit sits and what protections apply before signing.
