Hello, and welcome to "Beauty and the Biz," where we'll discuss the business and marketing side of plastic surgery.
As always, I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of "Your Aesthetic Practice – What Your Patients Are Saying." and consultant to plastic surgeons, helping them get more patients and more profits.
Ravi Somayazula, DO explains how at his Houston, TX plastic surgery practice, he went 100% cosmetic in 2 years. First, Dr. Ravi Somayazula finished his plastic surgery fellowship with a perfectly reasonable plan. Specifically, he wanted to operate, work hard and eventually build a cosmetic practice in Houston.
Next, his wife asked how he planned to make that happen.
Unsurprisingly, his answer was simple. Basically, he was a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon. Therefore, the cosmetic patients would surely come.
However, her response was blunt. Explicitly, she stated, "You're an idiot."
Ultimately, that conversation became a turning point. Instead, Dr. Ravi reduced his insurance volume to make room to build. Consequently, he stopped dividing his attention among reconstructive surgery, hand surgery and his desired cosmetic work.
Amazingly, within two years, his practice went from 100% reconstructive to 100% cosmetic. Indeed, "He Went 100% Cosmetic in 2 Years" as discussed in this "audiocast".
