One Way to Salvation: Redemption, Adoption as Sons, and the Allegory of Hagar and Sarah
Brother Jim Shaw preaches from Galatians 4 on the one way to salvation through Jesus Christ, tracing redemption and adoption as sons, Paul's warning against returning to religious ritual, and the allegory of Hagar and Sarah as a picture of two covenants, flesh versus promise.
Only One Way to Salvation
Brother Jim Shaw opens the broadcast declaring that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, rejecting any notion of religious diversity or exchangeable saviors among faiths. He says a reborn heart is a gift that comes from above, not something manufactured by teaching, inherited from parents, or absorbed from society. Without that experience, he argues, a person's religion would simply match whatever culture they were born into, Muslim, Christian, or Hindu, by accident of birth rather than truth. He describes his own realization that growing up under what he calls a Christian flag was not the same as knowing Christ, admitting he had once been an idol worshiper and a heathen with no real spiritual power. Brother Jim teaches that a true Jew is one circumcised in the heart rather than the flesh, and he tells listeners that Christians share that same identity, marked internally rather than physically. He frames tasting the Holy Ghost as the dividing line between inherited religion and genuine rebirth.
Redemption and Adoption in Galatians 4
Brother Jim Shaw reads Galatians 4:3, explaining that before Christ, people were children in bondage under the elements of the world, unable to escape sin because heaven only receives perfect individuals. He defines the word redeem as meaning to buy back, and calls the cross the ultimate sign of love, where God placed his Word in a human body conceived of the Holy Ghost yet still born through a woman. Because Jesus went through every temptation and trial that ordinary people face, Brother Jim says he could serve as the perfect sacrifice sent directly from God. He continues reading that believers receive the adoption of sons, and that God sends the Spirit of his Son into their hearts crying Abba, Father, proof, he says, that there is only one way to salvation and no diversity in how a soul is saved. He adds the verse calling believers no longer servants but sons, and therefore heirs of God through Christ, comparing the cross to Jesus taking a bullet meant for humanity.
