Adult friendships aren't easy, and this week my friend Rainey and I are getting honest about what it actually takes to maintain one.

Lataryn Rainey-Perry is a writer, publisher, and creative visionary based in Charleston, SC, and the founder of Penwork Publishing LLC — a women owned and veteran-owned creative studio helping storytellers bring their ideas to life. She's also been my friend for years and we've had many years of networking brunches, magazine covers, and a five-year gap where we didn't speak at all.

In this episode we talk about what happened during that gap, why "I'm a low-maintenance friend" isn't the flex I thought it was, and how love languages apply just as much to your friendships as they do in your romantic relationships. We get into transactional friendships, the ones that quietly fade without a fight, and the conversation most of us avoid having because we're scared of the answer.

If you've ever wondered whether a friendship is worth fighting for or how to bring one back after time apart, this one's for you.
