Real Estate’s Data Problem: Why Tokenization Keeps Failing | Matthew Schneider, Building Inc.18. Juli1 Std. 01 Min.

Real estate is one of the world’s largest asset classes, yet it remains surprisingly difficult to tokenize. In this episode of Colors of Web3 & Entrepreneurship, Matthew Schneider, CEO and founder of Building Inc., explains why the bottleneck was never simply blockchain. It was the data.

Real estate still relies on paper records, fragmented systems, and figures that can be difficult to verify independently. A token cannot make unreliable collateral trustworthy. Before real estate can support dependable oracles, tokens, and digital markets, the underlying information needs to be accurate, current, and traceable.

Matthew explains Building Inc.’s approach: using blockchain as a lightweight “receipts layer” that records who uploaded information, when it was uploaded, and whether the source can be trusted. Combined with AI for extraction, comparison, and monitoring, this could create a more reliable data layer for tokenized real estate.

We also discuss:

Why failed tokenized real-estate projects expose the risks of unverifiable collateral

The uncomfortable parallel between unreliable property data and the FTX collapse

How AI could help monitor properties for banks and lenders

What verified data could mean for oracles, RWAs, and tokenization

Building Inc.’s private beta, early customers, fundraising, and multi-chain strategy

Hedera, Polygon, and quantum-resistant blockchain infrastructure

Why founders should start with the problem instead of the technology

Whether you work in Web3, real estate, capital markets, proptech, or another legacy industry, this conversation is a practical look at the infrastructure required to make digital assets trustworthy.

⌛ Timestamps:

00:00:00 Episode trailer

00:00:30 Show & guest introduction

00:03:00 From day trading and e-commerce to founding a company in 2020

00:05:28 Challenges in real estate data management

00:10:21 Finding Bitcoin in 2016 and the slow conviction

00:12:33 Matthew’s hobbies

00:18:17 Three reasons real estate data management fails

00:20:37 Why trillions in real estate still aren't tokenized

00:23:52 Building.inc’s platform demo

00:32:08 Current stage of Building.inc: Private beta, early customers, and fundraising in the AI era

00:36:13 Going multi-chain: Hedera, Polygon, quantum-resistance chain

00:38:25 The business model and Web3 integrations

00:41:22 The tech behind the platform

00:48:49 The challenges facing his startup

00:50:56 The end game for RWAs and tokenized real estate

00:55:32 Advice for aspiring entrepreneurs

00:58:37 Where to follow Matthew and Building.inc

00:59:47 Episode outro and next episode preview

Follow Matthew & Building Inc:

Building's Website (may still be under maintenance): building.inc

Matthew's Twitter/X: https://x.com/mattschneid3r

Building's Twitter/X: https://x.com/BuildingInc

Our social media:

Spotify: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/colorsoftechpod

Twitter/X: https://x.com/ColorsofTechpod

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/colors-of-tech-entrepreneurship

If you enjoyed the episode, subscribe for more conversations with founders and experts working across Web3, AI, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology.
