Design Can be a creative technologist
Danish below
What happens to design when everyone can suddenly code?
Tina Tarighian is a senior creative technologist at Google Creative Lab in New York. She works at the intersection of technology, design, code and art, right in the middle of the changes AI is already bringing to the creative industries.
As AI makes it easier to code, design and create, does that mean we’ll need fewer creative people? Or will the ability to think independently, have taste and ask the right questions become more important?
Tina is already seeing the boundaries between designer, developer and creative technologist blur. She doesn’t necessarily see that as a threat, but as an opportunity for creative people to have more control over their own ideas.
At the same time, she is concerned about the other side of the equation: a job market where it’s harder for juniors to get started, a growing distrust of designers, and technology that can affect people in ways we don’t fully understand yet.
Tina also works as an artist, using technology to explore AI, identity, surveillance and our increasingly intimate relationship with technology.
Because when technology becomes easier to use, it may become even more important to know why you’re using it.
We talk about AI, design, art, vibe coding, design education, and why Tina believes you should “take the unlikely path.”
