The Texas Rangers weren’t sure if Jacob deGrom would start a game this homestand, and there was a chance he would end up on the injured list. Once cleared to start Thursday, they needed him to be very good, and he was. He also made history during his six scoreless innings, recording his 2,000th career strikeout in a 6-0 victory over the Nationals. DeGrom downplayed the significance of the milestone, saying the team win was most important. He’s not wrong necessarily, as the victory secured the series and move the Rangers up a notch in the wild-card standings.
