Mabon: Reciprocity — The Balance Between Giving and Keeping

What would change if your generosity ran on clear, loving accounts—rather than quiet exhaustion? In this episode of The Elegant Witchcraft Diary (“Mabon: Reciprocity — The Balance Between Giving and Keeping”), Liz Vyncy uses the autumn equinox as a living metaphor for balance—not as a mood, but as a season historically devoted to settling accounts: wages, rents, debts, gratitude, and offerings.

You’ll learn the core law of reciprocity as a three-part circle—give, receive, reciprocate—and why refusing to receive can quietly break relationship just as surely as taking without giving. From there, Liz shares a practical framework for untangling resentment and overgiving: the three ledgers.

Hearth ledger (home, intimacy, family): not itemized, but reviewed in seasons—support can be intentionally asymmetric.

Village ledger (friends, community): balanced loosely over time, with generous rounding—until “roughly even” becomes “always you.”

Market ledger (work, contracts, money): explicit and clean—fair pricing keeps everyone free and equal.

The heart of the teaching is spotting ledger mismatch (giving “hearth-level” devotion to clients, running a marriage on invisible invoices, or being asked for professional work as a “friend favor”). You’ll also get graceful wording for those collisions, plus four cautions—including the danger of covert contracts.

To close, Liz offers a simple Mabon working in three moves—audit, settle, ask—and a powerful receiving practice: pause, meet the eyes, say “thank you, yes,” and let the gift land without instantly repaying. Step into autumn with steadier boundaries, warmer relationships, and generosity that comes from the well—never the vein.

Learn more: https://elegantwitchcraft.com/academy
