Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 35-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 49,857

on turnover of $8.7-billion N-T.

Shares in Taiwan closed at a fresh high Tuesday, but gains were capped as the

benchmark index remained below the 50,000-point mark, with some investors

selling shares to lock in gains.

But contract chipmaker TSMC stayed resilient and still posted gains after

retreating from an intraday high, helping the broader market break its

previous closing record.
