Discussion on the Natasha Hausdorff vs. Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Kravik Debate

<p>Dr. Leif Knutsen joins me to discuss my recent episode with international law expert Natasha Hausdorff and deputy foreign minister Andreas Kravik. You can find the original debate we&#39;re discussing here: https://youtu.be/m7K6-9GJPT8?si=YDeDtle85cOF0gkrTogether we discuss how Natasha and Kravik went toe to toe on international law, Israel, Palestine, and the new proposed legislation that could give Norwegians both fines and up to 3 years of imprisonment for infractions.The background for this is the following:In June 2026, the Norwegian government published a draft law for public consultation. The proposal would make it illegal for Norwegian citizens and companies to trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Specifically, it would ban the import of goods produced in those settlements, the export of goods to them, the purchase of real estate there, and related services such as construction or property transactions.The government argues that the settlements are illegal under international law and that Norway should not allow its citizens or businesses to support or profit from them, with infractions potentially resulting in fines, or up to 3 years of imprisonment. The proposal also makes attempt and complicity punishable. Because many of the prohibited acts would take place outside Norway (in the settlements), the ordinary requirement of dual criminality is waived. The consultation period runs until mid-September, after which the government will decide whether to send a final bill to parliament.Dr. Leif Knutsen is an economist and philologist with a background as a consultant and advisor, and holds a doctorate in engineering science.
