Episode 115 - Mary Kirkham

In 1805 in Lincolnshire a heavily pregnant Mary Kirkham was found dead – she had been killed.  A local Navvy called Tom Otter was soon arrested for her murder. They had married just the day before – unbeknownst to Mary it was Tom Otter’s second marriage and he already had another wife and child as well.  Thought to have killed her to escape the responsibility of a family, Otter was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. He was the last man in Lincolnshire to be gibbeted and his name is carried across the area. Mary Kirkham was buried in an unmarked grave.  This is the story of Mary Kirkham. Unlock the Killer in the family Vault today https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership  Get ad-free, early access episodes and one bonus episode every months with exclusive access to the Killer in the family Vault https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership ________________________________________________________________  Information and support Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA Women’s Aid Home - Women's Aid National Domestic Abuse Helpline UK 0808 2000 247 Mental health support USA Mental Health America | Homepage | Mental Health America Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline  References 218 years on: Discover the terrible tale of Tom Otter at Lincoln Castle – Lincolnshire County Council Some Further Terror and Peculiar Mark of Infamy | Springer Nature Link Villain or Victim: was Tom Otter wrongfully accused? – Lincolnshire Folk Tales Project Tom Otter – Lincolnshire Folk Tales Project Tom Otter wedding certificate | Living a Literary Lifestyle. Credits    Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton    Produced by Clare Laxton   Part of W!ZARD Studios @wizradio   Music by Pixabay   If you want early access, ad-free episodes of Killer in the family as well as one bonus episode per month, unlock the Killer in the family Vault today: https://www.patreon.com/cw/KillerInTheFamily/membership  If you’re enjoying the podcast and would like to support its running, please consider buying me a coffee buymeacoffee.com/clarelaxton
