Luke Thomas argues Donald Trump’s Washington, DC National Guard deployment is being sold as a public-safety success, but he argues the evidence and the price tag tell a very different story.Trump has now moved to extend the controversial National Guard mobilization in Washington through January 2029. But has putting thousands of Guard members in the capital actually made DC safer?Luke points to a Reuters investigation and local analysis of law-enforcement activity that, in his telling, show little evidence that the deployment has meaningfully reduced violent crime.
