Is Matthew 24:14 a missionary countdown—a promise that Christ will return once the gospel reaches every modern nation, language, and people group?

That familiar interpretation misses both Jesus’ words and their first-century setting. Jesus wasn’t telling His disciples how they could trigger the Second Coming.
