Doing Right When You’ve Been Wronged

Doing Right When You’ve Been Wronged4. Okt.30 Min.

We all know what it feels like to be wronged. When someone insults us, mistreats us, damages our reputation, or treats us unfairly, something within us wants to make things right—and often, we want to make sure the other person pays. In Matthew 5:38–42, Jesus confronts our instinct for retaliation and calls His followers to a radically different response. Rather than living for revenge or trying to even the score, Jesus calls us to die to self, follow His example, and trust God with the outcome. This does not mean ignoring injustice or refusing to seek accountability; it means surrendering our desire for personal vengeance to the God who judges justly. Because we belong to a kingdom where Christ reigns and where perfect justice is coming, we can choose to return good for evil, respond with grace, and trust God when we have been wronged.
