Blood of My Blood: 2.05 - Recap & Reaction: Forgive Me, Father | Murtagh's Promise Steals The Show

Brian and Murtagh's promise before the Battle of Sheriffmuir changes how we understand their friendship—and Murtagh's lifelong loyalty to Jamie Fraser. In our Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 5 "Forgive Me, Father" recap and reaction, Mary and Blake break down the battle, the devastating connection between Old Rupert at Sheriffmuir and Young Rupert at Culloden, Henry's decision to fight, and the arrival of Captain Gerard Grey.

We also disagree about how the episode handles Henry's war trauma, Julia's fight with Seema, and the editing that cuts between the battle and Ellen's ordeal. Plus: does Lord Lovat have a way to use Ellen's claim to the MacKenzie lands, and could Julia and Henry somehow cross paths with Frank Randall?

Mary: 4.5/5 kilts. Blake: 4/5 kilts. Spoilers for Blood of My Blood 2.05 and later events in the original Outlander.
