Joel Robertson: Why Physical Media Still Matters

This week I'm joined by my friend Joel Robertson, film programmer, movie reviewer, physical media collector, musician, and video store purveyor at Austin's We Love Video.

Joel and I have a lot in common, especially our love of showing movies to an audience and then getting up there to talk about them. We talk about his Odd World screening series, the history of We Love Video, and why places where movie people can actually get together still matter. Joel describes We Love Video as both a video store and a community space, with around 30,000 movies and its own 35-seat microcinema.

We also get into physical media and why Joel thinks it's more important than ever to actually own the movies you care about. Then we complain about what happened to the Alamo Drafthouse, talk Tubi, documentaries, movie collecting, his reviews at Moving Picture House, and his band Hounding.
