James Meyers, III gives a synopsis of the Arian controversy which preceded and caused the Council of Nicea and its conclusive Creed (The Nicene Creed) in 325 A.D. However, the Arian controversy not only continued, but became more radical. This was resolved at the Council of Constantinople in 381 A.D. However, between these two councils laid a great period of political and theological strife within the church. This is admittedly most lamentable. However, it is during this epoch of conflagration which came to define the Church’s orthodoxy, not Her orthodox faith which began at Her birth.
