Reprove A Wise Man and He Will Love You
As you study the New Testament, you’ll notice that those who followed Jesus were often described as belonging to “the Way.” Even Saul, who we know as Paul, used this term prior to his own conversion to Christ, describing the kind of people he was looking to threaten, imprison, and kill. And that makes sense since Jesus himself said, “I am the way”, in John 14. But what does this have to do with Proverbs 9? Well, this chapter is split up into two parts, and each presents opposing ways to live: the Way of Wisdom or the Way of Folly.
Those are the only two options available to every one of us, and each leads to a different destination. People want to believe that all roads are equal and lead to the same thing, but the Bible says otherwise. Only one way is right and true. Christ is the way, since, as believers, we belong to him, it should be very easy for us to know which way to choose; yet this is a choice we struggle with in every moment. In life, we are continually tempted to trust our own wisdom, pursue our own desires, and go our own way. Which is why we need to be reminded of what Christ and his way leads to, and that choosing the Way of Wisdom means choosing Christ. This is what we will consider as we continue our series in the book of Proverbs.
