THE LORD HAS DONE THIS – AND HE IS NOT DONE

We’re privileged to have Joel and Jill Anderson with us this weekend to help us celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Joel has served in pastoral ministry for more than 30 years in church planting, leadership development, pastoral care, and since 2017 as Lead Pastor of Flagstaff Bible Church in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona.

This weekend carries some special history. He and I were young, green church planters together in 2001, launching our first churches within months of one another and remaining close through the joys, bruises, and changing seasons of ministry ever since. This is Joel’s fourth time preaching here at Harvest Barrie.

A graduate of Wheaton College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in the Chicago area, Joel has increasingly come to appreciate the saying, “God uses crooked sticks to draw straight lines.” He would be quick to count himself among the crooked sticks—grateful that the usefulness of a life rests far more on God’s grace than on the impressiveness of the person. He’s a great fit with the “mob of misfits” we have here at Harvest.

Joel married his high school sweetheart, Jill—their story began, appropriately enough, in chemistry class. Jill also teaches the Bible and serves actively in women’s ministry. Together they have five grown daughters and one son-in-law, now scattered into their own adventures and vocations. Joel loves the outdoors, his companion Olso (a retired sled dog), good coffee, people in measured doses, and the enduring hope of Hebrews 6:9, “Beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you.” He was invited to this weekend because his love for God’s Word oozes from every pore as he preaches. I’m glad you’ll get to experience that.
