His research aims to model and understand how social life develops in individuals and over generations, and going from an understanding of the emotional basis of social life to modeling culture.

In this episode, we first discuss active inference as a framework. We then talk about feelings and moods, emotional valence, core affect, the role of communication with conspecifics and keepingtrack of each other’s feelings, and how we go from an understanding of the emotional basis of social life to the study of culture and cultural evolution. We discuss cumulative culture, and religious practices as multiscale active inference. We also discuss how to naturalize phenomenology through neuroscience. Finally, we talk about applications of this knowledge to healthcare, entertainment, and elsewhere.

--
