Who Is The Real Synagogue Of Satan?

What did Jesus mean when he said, "There are those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan"?  This has become one of the most debated passages in Scripture today, because it sits at the center of the modern discussion surrounding Israel. Was he teaching that anyone who rejects him is no longer truly Jewish? Was he referring to ethnic Jews, religious leaders, or a specific group of opponents? Can Christians today identify a false Jew simply by whether they believe in Jesus or not? Or are these verses being taken far beyond what Jesus truly intended?
