Cryptid Country; Here There Be Monsters

Appalachia has no shortage of monsters. Tis Cryptid Country out there.

Today we're heading into the hills and hollers for a chaotic charcutic collection of Appalachian cryptids. I offer you some classics, some obscure, some who landed on the page of a newspaper and some that landed in the middle of nowhere for a little sip of blood. These beasts weren’t easy to classify. So…this island of misfit toys gets their very own show!

Today we’ll discuss:

🐑 Sheepsquatch — the mysterious white creature associated with West Virginia and some much older Appalachian stories.

👹 The Grafton Monster — a bizarre 1964 encounter that exploded into a full-blown monster hunt before eventually becoming one of the most fascinating examples of how folklore can evolve.

🐒 Devil Monkeys — mysterious, incredibly fast creatures described as resembling enormous kangaroos, with reports dating back decades.

🌱 The Vegetable Man — one of the strangest Appalachian high-strangeness cases, sitting somewhere between cryptid encounter, UFO story, and folklore.

🩸 The Bloodless Howler — a terrifying West Virginia chupacabra-like creature said to have the face and mane of a lion and the body of a timber wolf.
