Winter is coming, and now is the time to start preparing your pig for the colder months ahead! In this episode, Autumn from Autumn Acres Mini Pet Pigs shares practical tips and personal experience to help both indoor and outdoor pigs transition into winter safely and comfortably.

Autumn explains why maintaining regular outdoor time is so important as the seasons change, even when your pig would rather stay warm inside. She shares positive training techniques for encouraging pigs to go outside, including feeding meals outdoors and rewarding them for going potty outside in cold weather.

For outdoor pigs, Autumn covers the essentials of winter housing, including dry and draft-free shelter, proper bedding, secure fencing, access to unfrozen water, and safe pathways through snow and ice. She also explains why straw is preferred over hay or blankets for winter bedding and discusses how pigs naturally adapt as temperatures drop.

For indoor pigs, Autumn shares ideas for keeping them mentally and physically stimulated when cold weather limits their outdoor time. From food-based enrichment and treat-dispensing toys to boxes, paper, ball pits, training sessions, and heating pads, she offers creative ways to help prevent boredom and bossy behavior.

Most importantly, Autumn reminds us that we shouldn't wait until winter arrives to prepare for it. The routines and experiences we create for our pigs today can make tomorrow easier. By keeping experiences positive, building good habits, and preparing their environment ahead of time, we can help our pigs—and ourselves—have a much smoother winter.

Whether your pig lives indoors, outdoors, or enjoys a combination of both, this episode is packed with practical advice to help you get ready for the season.
