Building Musical Versatility and Audience Connection with Rhythm Jab's Brian Robinson7. Okt.17 Min.

In this special simulcast of The Neil Haley Show and The Storehouse Media Group Podcast, Neil “The Media Giant” Haley and Sherrie Price Clark speak with Brian Robinson, owner, bandleader, and guitarist of Rhythm Jab. Brian discusses the band’s diverse musical style, how he builds each performance, the importance of connecting with audiences, and his vision for growing Rhythm Jab into a lasting, generational band.

Brian explains that he personally curates the song list for each performance based on the venue and audience. Rather than staying with one genre, Rhythm Jab moves through Motown, rock, R&B, dance, country, funk, pop, and other styles. Brian says this approach allows the band to begin each set with strong, recognizable songs and keep audiences engaged throughout the performance.

The conversation also explores Brian’s background in music. He studied music in college and originally expected to become a studio musician, which led him to develop versatility across different musical styles. He began formal musical training at around 13 years old and has continued making music throughout his life. When he eventually formed Rhythm Jab, he wanted the band to combine musical versatility with entertainment and audience interaction.

Brian explains that many of the band members joined through friendships and existing relationships. Over time, the group developed organically, with musicians bringing different talents to the band. He describes Rhythm Jab as a family and explains that the members spend time together outside of performances as well. The band also maintains a group of backup musicians so that scheduled performances can continue when a regular member is unavailable.

Another major topic is how Brian approaches different audiences. Through weddings, corporate events, and public performances, he has learned that audiences can have very different musical preferences. Instead of focusing on only one style, Rhythm Jab gives people a variety of genres and songs they can enjoy. Brian shares an example of an older couple who stayed through the band’s entire performance and eventually danced along with the music, showing him that audiences can appreciate a much wider range of music than expected.

Brian also discusses the band’s growing schedule, including weddings, festivals, corporate events, and public performances.
