Amanda de Oliveira: The Woman Who Pretended to Be a Child

For 14 months, a family in Brazil believed they were caring for a 12-year-old girl named Gabriele. They gave her a bedroom, bought her clothes, celebrated her birthday and even considered adopting her. But Gabriele was actually Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira, a woman approaching her 38th birthday.

And it wasn't the first time Amanda had assumed the identity of a child. Over more than a decade, authorities encountered her using different names, ages and stories in several Brazilian states.
